Gypsum is a soft sulfate mineral composed of calcium sulfate dihydrate, with the chemical formula CaSO4•2H2O. It is widely mined and is used as a fertilizer and as the main constituent in many forms of plaster, blackboard/sidewalk chalk, and drywall, cement etc.


Gypsum Board

Gypsum board is also known as plasterboard, drywall or wall board. It consists of the paper surface and non-combustible core. These boards are easy to install. It has excellent fire resistance. Helps in sound isolation by preventing the transfer of unnecessary sound. It is less expensive and has great durability.

Gypsum for Cement

Gypsum plays a very important role in controlling the rate of hardening of the cement, so its is generally termed as retarding agent of cement. It is mainly used for regulating the setting time of cement and is an indispensable component. The main purpose of adding gypsum in the cement is to slow down the hydration process of cement once it is mixed with water.

Gypsum in Agriculture

Gypsum gives nutrients to plants by providing sulphur and calcium. Calcium helps in the absorption of nutrients in the roots. Sulphur improves crop yield. It has the ability to improve acid soils. It helps in treating aluminium toxicity. Soil can get waterlogged due to the presence of increased sodium, excess water and swelling clay. Gypsum helps in the process of improving the water infiltration.
